Foreign Office, April 9, 1908. WITH reference to the letter from this Department of the 28th February last, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you herewith, for the information of the Secretary of State for India, a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking, inclosing correspondence with the Wai-wu Pu as to the measures to be taken for the reduction of the importation of opium from countries other than India.

Sir E. Grey has addressed a note to the French Ambassador, inquiring whether anything has been done in this direction.
